Online entrepreneurship course

Ambition is the UK’s leading youth club charity. They support 3,500 youth clubs and community groups nationwide with training, resources and events for leaders and young people.

In spring 2013, I worked on an exciting project for the organisation: writing an online course 14-18 year olds could work through to launch their own business.

The challenge
Having won funding from the Royal Bank of Scotland, Ambition wanted to create an inspiring course young people could do on the online learning platformMoodle to learn entrepreneurial skills and launch their own business.

My first challenge was to attend training to acquaint myself with the possibilities Moodle offered for e-learning. I then designed and wrote a nine-module course covering teaching everything from financial planning and marketing skills to how to do market research and write a business plan. I uploaded all the content to Moodle.

A pilot group of 30 young people, divided into six groups, will complete the course between May and September 2013, before it’s rolled out nationally. Each group will finish the course with a business plan and launch their own business during the school holidays.

The impact
An engaging, inspirational course, written in an easy-to-understand and friendly tone, that could produce the next Richard Branson or Mark Zuckerberg!
