Race is Complicated toolkit

The Coalition for Inclusion and Anti-Oppressive Practice brings together the 11 leading professional bodies for psychotherapists in the UK to improve diversity and encourage anti-racist practice within the profession.
I worked with the Coalition to create Race is Complicated: A toolkit for psychological therapies training. The publication aims to give institutions that train psychotherapists, programme leaders and tutors themselves the tools to better understand and address race and diversity, and promote anti-oppressive practice to their students.
The Coalition commissioned two psychotherapists with a specialism in this area, Danielle and Marcelline, to author the toolkit. They brought me on to the project to support the authors to mould their ideas into an easy-to-follow, slickly structured, powerful publication with a deep impact on readers.
I carefully edited the copy into well-structured sections (one for each of our key audiences), pulling out the most important points and making copy as concise as possible, as well as clear and jargon-free for readers. I created consistent headers and signposting for each section, and broke down copy into easy-to-read chunks by using box-outs, bullet points, checklists and more.
“I just wanted to tell you how incredibly happy Marcelline and Danielle are to be working with you. They are absolutely delighted with and amazed at how you are so sensitively crafting their words and honouring their voices. You have helped them to understand what a toolkit looks like.”
